We all know airhead boxer engines are hard-wearing, sturdy chaps- However, with many miles clocked up they are all getting tired - pistons and liners will be at their limits someday. It‘s then when every owner wonders: Shall it replace the worn bits or go for an upgrade?
Meanwhile we can supply cylinder kits for almost every classic BMW built between 1969 bis 1996. All liners are nicasil-coated for minimal wear and long life. Their forged pistons are weight-optimized, and all kits come with legal paperwork. Basic differences between the kits are a bigger bore aka cut-out in the crankcase, something which had been altered during engine redesign in autumn 1980. Except for just 4 „wild shots“ out kit range covers every classic BMW built within those 27 years - partly with a capacity of 1000cc, for more muscles on tap the 1070cc kit is the right choice! For all the short-stroke R 45 and R 65 machines we have our 860cc kit on offer - all road-legal and likewise TÜV-approved.
We have classified our top-end program range cut to size in four basic designs, distingueshed according to the above mentioned engine revision into kits before and after 1981. Newer engines are equipped with an altered crankshaft lubrication system and feature a different bore at their cylinder base. Our classic Power Kit 1000cc not only offers nicasil-coated cylinders, but also lightened forged pistons for smoother engine run and better revving. The 1000cc Power Kit includes pistons which are 150g lighter than original ones, our Extra Kit comes with stainless steel rod tubes. Both kits take R 80 G/S and GS-Modelle up to 60 bhp, 800cc street versions have a little extra performance and make 64 hp. Still, running smoothness is down to the piston design, just as the improved torque from 4000 revs onwards. Just to please owners of older BMW airheads we have worked incredibly hard. Due to numerous requests now engines with 99mm and 97mm bores can also be upgraded to give better performance and more torque - a tailored cylinder bottom was the solution, it now suits earlier engines to use our new, hard-wearing cylinders. All 1000cc BMW airheads can be equipped with our TÜV-approved Replacement Kit 1000cc. Improved action is cared for by special pistons - both are 110 g lighter than their forerunners, despite a compression ratio of 9,5. Former entrance-class models - the short-stroke airheads - have also been included in our product range. To suit R 65 or its smaller brother R 45, our Power Kit 860cc peps up engine performance significantly. In fact, it adds 40 percent more power to the smallest airhead units, with plenty more torque from 2240 rpm! Forged pistons run here in coated liners, too - for many troublefree miles and years.
Insatiable R 100 folks running post-1981 models may fit our Big Bore Kit 1070cc. Here, weight-optimated conrods featuring ARP bolts, are used - each unit is just 450 g. Helped by 98mm pistons with 460g, they give a whopping 80 bhp at roughly 100 Nm – without any cylinder head work, that is. To see and feel how it behaves on the throttle - any ambitious airhead enthusiast is welcome to make a decision her-/himself. At our workshop in Wendlingen there is a demonstrater waiting. A bit more go, anyone? Those of you who are still keen, please hope but be patient - 1130cc enough, maybe?
